Connect OpenClaw to WhatsApp and Telegram
OpenClaw talks to remote MCP servers. You add DMWire once, with its address and your key, and every OpenClaw agent can use it.
A one command ClawHub skill for DMWire is planned and not published yet. Until then, add DMWire as an MCP server as shown here.
Add DMWire in the Control UI
- Open the OpenClaw Control UI and go to Settings, MCP.
- Add a server named
dmwirewith the URLhttps://mcp.dmwire.ai/mcpand the transport streamable HTTP. - In its config editor, add the header
X-API-Keywith your DMWire key. OpenClaw recommends a reference to a secret or environment variable over a literal value. - Restart or reload the gateway so running agents pick it up.
Or in the OpenClaw config
The server entry goes under mcp.servers. Set transport to streamable-http: OpenClaw falls back to the older SSE transport when it is left out, and DMWire does not offer SSE.
{
mcp: {
servers: {
dmwire: {
url: "https://mcp.dmwire.ai/mcp",
transport: "streamable-http",
headers: { "X-API-Key": "${DMWIRE_API_KEY}" },
},
},
},
}Then set DMWIRE_API_KEY in the environment the OpenClaw gateway runs in, and check the server:
openclaw mcp doctor dmwire --probeThese field names come from OpenClaw's own docs (MCP servers, transports). Keep OpenClaw up to date: versions before 2026.5.12 could forward custom headers to another site after a redirect (CVE-2026-53840).
Ask your agent
Use DMWire to see which of my accounts are connected, then connect my WhatsApp number +31612345678.The agent calls list_accounts, then connect_whatsapp, and sends you a link with a QR code to scan on your phone. From there, see WhatsApp and How your agent hears new messages.
An agent that answers all day
OpenClaw agents can keep working in the background. A simple instruction to give yours:
Keep calling DMWire wait_for_messages with the cursor from the last call. For each new WhatsApp message, reply with send_message if you know the answer from my notes. If you do not, message me first and wait. Never message someone who has not written to me unless I ask you to.Last checked against the live service on 2026-10-17.
